The Story of the Running Man Logo
|
Once Island Boost had been developed, we knew we needed a logo and a brand that conveys a sense of performance, energy, and fun. We wanted a Polynesian warrior in a grass skirt and crazy head-dress. Guess we watched too much Gilligan’s Island as kids.
We wanted the brand to be both beautiful and edgy - like a tribal tattoo - something that conveyed the beauty of the islands while also having the tribal vibe that athletes fall into when psyched up that it's warrior time. Time to train, time to compete, time to win.
Our graphic artist, Rachel Ortiz researched Polynesian tribes and conceptualized the Running Man logo incorporating Maori and Polynesian symbols. The Island Boost Running Man evokes energy and that athletic warrior mindset through the recurring theme based on the koru, the unfurling silver fern frond, that symbolizes new life and strength. The dagger-like fish tattoos that run down his arm and leg are a Polynesian symbol for speed which fits he nature of endurance athletes testing their limits through triathlon endeavors and the component sports: running, cycling and swimming.
We love that our brand has a story behind it - its own history and meaning. That of passion, desire to stretch ourselves beyond our current limits to break through barriers. Island Boost celebrates that joy of working hard, bearing down to break PRs, and to emerge victorious.
